Civitella del Tronto

Campli

An ancient city of art located at the foot of the "Mountain of Flowers", in the Gran Sasso-Monti della Laga National Park. The historic center displays very valuable monuments such as the Collegiate Church of S. Maria in Platea (14th century), the Palazzo del Parliament or Palazzo Farnese (14th or 15th century), the church of S. Francesco (13th century), with a magnificent portal, the church of S. Giovanni Battista (11th century), the Scala Santa, inside which there are artistic treasures of extraordinary value. The premises of the former convent of S. Francesco house the National Archaeological Museum, one of the most important in Abruzzo, where precious artifacts found in the protohistoric necropolis of Campovalano are exhibited. In the same locality of Campovalano there is the ancient and suggestive church of S. Pietro.

To date, Campli, with its many historical and artistic treasures, is a destination for lovers of art, culture, gastronomy and outdoor activities and is among the six most beautiful villages in Italy in 2021.

Atri

It is one of the oldest Italian cities and one of the most important art cities of Abruzzo. Among the numerous, valuable monuments preserved within the walls of the pre-Roman Hatria (or Hadria) Picena, which has the pride of having given its name to the Adriatic Sea and the birthplace of the family of the emperor Elio Adriano, the majestic Basilica stands out. -Concathedral "S. Maria Assunta" (XIII century), with the imposing bell tower of 55 m. The Cathedral, a National Monument since 1899 and symbol of the ducal city, is among the very few churches in the world to have a Holy Door, it is considered one of the most beautiful churches in central-southern Italy.

Torre del Cerrano

At the southern end of the Pinetese territory, along the spectacular stretch of coast between Pineto and Silvi where, due to the extraordinary naturalistic interest it holds, the "Torre del Cerrano" Marine Protected Area was recently established (April 2010), majestic, the suggestive Torre di Cerrano, a 16th century watchtower and symbol of the central-northern Abruzzo coast.

Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell'Addolorata

According to legend, the foundation of the Convent would be linked to the presence of San Francesco; for centuries it was entrusted to the conventuals who had to abandon it after the suppression of religious orders by the French. In 1847 it was entrusted to the Passionist fathers.

Linked today to the figure of San Gabriele dell’Addolorata, whose remains are preserved, the Sanctuary at the foot of the Gran Sasso is one of the best known in Italy and Europe.

The small town, located at the foot of the Shirt Mountains (2,564 m.) Pietracamela

Pietracamela is a beautiful mountain center, made unique by the characteristic stone houses, by the small "alleys" that run through the town and by the delightful little churches in Romanesque style, full of artistic and religious treasures. Rocca Calascio

Calascio is a tiny center located in the territory of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, surrounded by forests, meadows and pastures, but also by harsh limestone. Its famous fortress, symbol of the village, was founded around the year 1000 as a simple watchtower and over time acquired more and more importance. Thus two villages develop, Calascio and Rocca Calascio, the second completely destroyed by the earthquake of 1703. Of Rocca Calascio today only the ruins, majestic and fascinating, sentinels that overlook the village of Calascio remain. Today the Rocca di Calascio, the highest fortification in Abruzzo, restored and consolidated, attracts many visitors and has been used several times as a film set for national and international films.

Santo Stefano di Sessanio

The village developed from the fourteenth century around the ancient fortified garrison of the Medici tower. The tower is presumed to have existed since the Norman era, isolated on a hilltop, and communicating with the towers of Rocca Calascio, that of Castel del Monte and Castelvecchio Calvisio. The lookout tower was used to control traffic on the sheep track to Foggia, or to alert the population during enemy invasions of the territory. In the sixteenth century, when Costanza Piccolomini sold the barony of Carapelle to Duke Francesco de 'Medici, the already developing town was decorated with the unmistakable Florentine Renaissance style, of which the main tower is the main element.

Lago di Scanno

It was a cyclopean landslide from Monte Genzana, which blocked the Sagittario valley to create Lake Scanno, the most evocative and visited in Abruzzo, with an incredible heart shape. It occupies a vast basin at 922 meters above sea level, between the historic centers of Villalago and Scanno, at the foot of the dense forests of the Montagna Grande, on the border of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. From the east the steep rocky slopes of the Monte Genzana Reserve loom over the basin. When the water level is at its maximum, Lake Scanno reaches 36 meters deep.

Il Parco Nazionale Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga

The Park Territory, with purely mountainous characteristics, has very different natural environments as are the flora and fauna. The vegetation, much thicker on the Teramo side than in the Lazio and L'Aquila side, scattered with pastures-pastures, includes beech woods and magnificent high-altitude blooms. Among the animal presences to remember the wolf, the chamois, the wild boar, the bear, the golden eagle.
